Mountain Retreat
Nestled within its natural surroundings, Mountain Retreat was designed as a welcoming family home that was built to emulate a family home on the Sunshine Coast from more than a hundred years ago. One of the owners grew up in that house and wanted this one to carry the same character and charm. Rich wood finishes, carefully crafted details, and a timeless material palette create a cozy space rather than a grand one, and a sense of comfort permeates throughout the residence. The site asked more of the build than the house did: slope stability had to be resolved before anything went up, storm water management was designed into the property rather than added afterwards, and retaining walls hold the ground where it falls away.
Inside, vaulted ceilings and expansive living spaces bring light, volume, and a feeling of openness to the home. Dark wood elements add depth and warmth, while thoughtfully designed gathering areas encourage connection, relaxation, and everyday living. The home’s classic aesthetic is balanced by modern functionality, creating spaces that feel both refined and inviting.
The connection between the home and its landscape is an important part of the overall design. Carefully integrated landscaping helps the residence feel grounded within its setting, extending living spaces outdoors and strengthening the relationship between architecture and nature. The result is a home that feels equally suited to quiet retreat, family life, and entertaining throughout the seasons.
